A bit of good news in all this gloom 😀

Love, Santa, which Lee illustrated, got a great review from Publishers Weekly! It's a really beautiful story, so it's nice to see it get some love.

It's all about how a girl comes to learn the truth behind Santa, and how she carries on the spirit of Christmas. We will definitely read it to our little guy when he is a little older and ready to know that Santa is bigger than any one person 😉

It's written by the amazingly-talented Martha Brockenbrough, a Seattlite who has written a whole lot of books for young readers.

It's due out on 9/26!

Praying for rain! It seems strange to say that here in Portland, where the rainfall is legendary. But it's been dry for months and now wildfires are consuming our forests.

The ash is falling from the sky like snow and the air is thick with smoke. We spent last night hunkered down in our one room with AC to help filter out the smoke. We ate a picnic dinner on the bedroom floor.

It's heartbreaking to think of our beloved Columbia River Gorge blackened by fire. We have gone on many magical adventures there over the years...

At least the temps are coming down a bit this week. Now if the rains would just start...

Lee's art book starts shipping tomorrow!

Post by Lisa

We've been waiting for this day a LONG time!

Lee started showing his own artwork at art fairs back in 2010, and people there would always ask if he had any books of his work. But life kept us super busy until finally in 2016, when he decided to see if he could get it funded on Kickstarter.

It tooks months of preparation before we even launched the campaign in October 2016. Then came several months of designing, writing and copy editing. Then came several more months of printing and proofing the book, which took much longer than anticipated. We learned a lot along the way!

But now it's finally here! We will be working day and night to get these out in the next couple weeks 😀 Thanks again to all who took part!

Proofs for Lee's art book

Work to do!

Work to do!

Just got the proofs for Lee's art book! We are busy combing through them looking for typos and other random blunders, like extra spaces and weird formatting. Even though we triple-checked the dummy before sending it to the printer in the first place, we are still finding sneaky little mistakes here and there.

For those unfamiliar with how books are made, you first make a digital version of the book called a "dummy" and send it to the printer. They send back a paper version called a "proof," which you need to check for any mistakes. Then the final printing can begin.

The proofs are for the book that Lee got funded on Kickstarter in Fall 2016. The book showcases all Lee's artwork from the last six years or so. Some of the work he did for children's books and such, but most he did just for fun : )

It's so awesome to flip through the pages and get a feel for what the book will look like. We are hoping to get all the books sometime in the next month, which we will ship right away. For those who missed the Kickstarter campaign, we will have copies for sale in Lee's shop. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen!
